Eight arrested, 'ganja' seized - Images

MANGALORE, July 27: The sleuths of District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) busted drugs and prostitution racket during a raid on a lodge at Bendorewell here on Wednesday.

The police have arrested eight persons in this connection. Two of the accused involved in the racket managed to escape.

N. Sathish Kumar, Superintendent of Police, said in a press release here on Thursday that the arrested include three women.

The police seized 850 grams of “ganja”, worth about Rs. 5,000, and four mobile phones from the accused.

A pornographic VCD featuring one of the accused was also seized.

The contents of the VCD were being circulated through MMS clips, the police said.

Mr. Kumar said that search was on to arrest the other two accused. He said the police had started a crackdown on people dealing with pornographic material using information technology tools.

Two held

The Panambur police and the Highway Patrol Squad of Panambur sub-division busted a pornography racket and arrested two persons during a raid on a commercial complex at Bykampady here on Thursday.

Those arrested are Kusumananda and Arun, who were reportedly running the racket at Durgadevi Communications shop in the complex, the police said.

B.S. Lokesh Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, said that the accused were reportedly downloading pornographic material from a personal computer to mobile phones of customers for a fee. The police have seized the personal computer and its peripherals. Two mobile chip memory cards and Rs. 685 were recovered from the accused. The estimated value of the seized material is Rs. 30,000, the police added.

A case has been registered.
